Jon F. Hanson Selected as Inaugural Speaker for Rutgers Center for Real Estate Studies Distinguished Lecture Series

Chairman and Founder of The Hampshire Companies to Discuss Development in the Meadowlands, Atlantic City and New Brunswick
Morristown, N.J.

The Hampshire Companies, a full-service, private real estate investment firm with equity in assets valued at over $2.5 billion, has announced its Founder and Chairman, Jon F. Hanson, will serve as the inaugural speaker for Rutgers Center for Real Estate Studies Distinguished Lecture Series. Mr. Hanson will take the podium at the Newark Museum on March 20, 2014, and will address the development of American Dream Meadowlands, Atlantic City, and New Brunswick.

“Jon Hanson is a true industry icon,” said Ronald Shapiro, Director of Rutgers Center for Real Estate Studies. “His rich, unique experiences and vast accomplishments in commercial real estate puts him at the top of our speaker’s list for our inaugural lecture series. Jon’s success is one that our program hopes to emulate as we embark on creating a world class degree institution for the real estate community. We thank Jon and The Hampshire Companies for their support.”

Mr. Hanson founded The Hampshire Companies nearly 40 years ago and remains active in the family business. In 2013, he was named the number one most influential person in real estate, and ranked as the third most influential person in New Jersey business by NJBiz Magazine. Mr. Hanson is currently Chairman of the New Jersey Gaming, Sports and Entertainment Advisory Commission under Executive Order of Governor Christie, Chairman of the Board of Health South and Pascack Community Bank, Director of Yankee Global Enterprises, and was formerly Chairman of the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority.

“Real estate deserves to be included in every university’s educational curriculum,” said Hanson. “It’s exciting to see Rutgers expanding its offerings to meet the demands of this exciting and complex industry. I’m honored to serve as the program’s first speaker and hope that my insights inspire and motivate today’s generation of real estate minds.”

The nascent real estate program at Rutgers Business School announced last year that it would launch an MBA concentration in real estate at its Newark campus following a $3 million endowment to establish a chair in the field. The position, which Rutgers is actively looking to fill, will be named after Paul V. Profeta, president and owner of West Orange-based Paul V. Proteta and Associates Inc., who donated $1.5 million to the post.

Registration for the event is required but limited availability remains. For more information on the Distinguished Lecture Series and to register for the event please visit http://business.rutgers.edu/cres.
